Strengths: Standard, nicely laid-out remote. Plays every DVD I've thrown at it. Nice slim design. Remembers where movie left off when unit is turned off. Nice picture. Reliable performance. Great price.
Summary: I had originally considered a Toshiba DVD player since my former player was a Toshiba. It turned out to be a complete piece of junk (audio out of sync, noisy mechanism, poor performance). I replaced it with this Sony and couldn't be happier. It has lots of features for a reasonably-priced DVD player. Picture is very sharp. Remote is easy to use. Response is very quick when pushing a button on the remote. It remembers where you stopped the DVD (up to 6 discs!). In short, you can't beat this DVD player for the price and performance. Oh, and the silver color makes it hide the dust much better than the black versions of this model;)

Strengths: 1. Plays scratched dvd's, dvr's and cdr's much better than the Toshiba model it replaces.2. Returns to the same location on a disk after power down and startup.3.
Summary: We have two Sony DVP-NS57p players... both replaced toshiba players that would have problems reading certain disks. No such problem with the Sony... we have yet to find a disk it cannot read.
Aside from it's ability to play disks that other players cannot, there is nothing really earth shattering about the player. It has all the popular output options and the user interface is OK.
Definitely consider if you have troublesome disks that your present player cannot handle.
