Summary: This phone was purchased to be used in conjunction with SkypeIn/SkypeOut as an alternative to having a regular second phone line from the local telephone company. The phone itself is about the size of a Snickers bar and the base unit is about the size of 4 slices of white bread. The setup was really pretty intuitive, with the one catch that for setting up timezones they don't have the names of the timezones listed (i.e., Central, Eastern, etc.) they just have +- GMT. Voicemail was simple to set up and the phone display tells you when you have messages. The display is bright and easily readable. Really, once you enter in your Skype account information and let the AAA batteries in the handset charge you're set to go. Total setup time was maybe 1/2 hour. I'm very pleased with this item and would certainly purchase it again.

Strengths: provides wireless for skype
Summary: i only use the skype portion of the phone so i cant comment on the land line portion. the phone does seem to work fine and from the handset calls seem perfect. however, i have noticed popping sounds or slight cutaway issues when calling certain people or networks. ive tried to make sure this wasnt a connection issue and i have to assume its not the other persons issue since they only hear popping when they get calls from me with this phone over skype. when i call them with skype on my computer, everything seems fine.

Strengths: An excellent, economical, elegant and ergonomic solution to the problem of exhorbitant telephony expense.
Summary: I wanted to save a relative from having to pay almost a $1000 USD a year for a landline connection. My solution to the problem was VOIP. I decided to use Skype as I have used it in the past via computer. Many hours of research led me to Philips 8411B/37 system. Setup was very easy and took no time at all. Before I had my relative register with Skype, I just connected the landline to the 8411B/37; and found the reception to be good. After registering with Skype, the VOIP line's reception was just as good. As far as the voicemail feature, I've had trouble with it; but I believe this has more to do with the Skype network have temporary trouble than with the 8411B/37 having trouble.
