product reviews |
Strengths: Decent quality sensors, Good interface, Good wireless transmitters, Nice RS232 output, Reasonable Price Summary: A decent manual can be found for a version of this system made by Radio Shack. Also, there is FREE software that does a nice job connecting the WMR to your Windows PC.
Search for \"FreeWX\" with Google to get these.
I would rate this systems 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Strengths: Solar Powered transmitters work great. Wireless hasn't missed a beat. Never a blank on the screen Summary: THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON 3 MONTHS USE
Haven't used the rain gage yet due to winter weather. I do recommend this product. It's a lot of fun having all this weather info available. The wind speed indicator is a bad design. In wet weather turning to freezing water drips down into the unit and it freezes up. Once I took a hair dryer out with a long extension cord to unfreeze it. The other time, I just lived with it. The other bad part of the design is that there is a screw to hold the wind cups onto a shaft, and it's hard to get it tight such that you can be confident that it won't slip in high wind conditions. Other than that everything else seems to work great. Don't expect good customer service from Oregon Scientific. They are impossible to get hold of by phone, and don't answer the emails. I was looking for advice on the freezing up of the wind indicator. I've given up for the short term since we are entering summer here. Strengths: solar transmitters, temp guage Summary: Absolutely the worst written instruction manual I have ever read. Customer svc. blames this on translation to English by Chinese folks. Give me a break!
Anemometer is shot after 2 months of use(summer). Have no idea how to calibrate barometer to local air pressure, and rain guage is not remotely accurate.
Summary: Overpriced plastic Chinese junk. Back it goes to Costco.
