Strengths: Clear, balanced sound. Can produce room-filling volume without distortion. iPod playlist presets on remote. Fit & finish.
Summary: With my old Aiwa mini-system getting balky when playing CDs, I found myself usually plugging my iPod into the AUX input. So, when it was time to look at getting a replacement, I decided to look at iPod sound systems. After a lot of browsing and listening, I determined that there were a number of acceptable systems available, but I wasn't too pleased with some of the prices.

Enter Logitech and its new Pure-Fi Elite. Not only did it easily compare in sound quality to higher-end iPod systems, I was able to find it at Amazon.com for a lower price than what many retailers are selling Logitech's portable Pure-Fi Anywhere!

While the Elite shares the \"Pure-Fi\" name with the Anywhere, this unit seems to have better build quality. The bass and treble controls provide a wide range of adjustment, however, most program material doesn't require much intervention. In fact, the bass gets a little too \"tubby\" at louder volumes if it's set much higher than its mid-point. The high end is very natural, and acoustic music has exceptionally good presence. It's also capable of playing quite loudly without distortion.

The remote is an improvement over the little remotes often accompanying iPod systems, and it's back-lit as well. A nice touch is having six playlists ready at the touch of a button.

Overall, Logitech has another winner. Well done!

Strengths: Good sound, nice remote.
Summary: Bought this for my son's iPod touch. Unit had very nice sound, one of the few we looked at that had four actual speakers. Nice bright display. Overall good sounding unit. Don't pay anything more than 1/2 of the suggested retail of $299.

Radio - Neither FM or AM received any stations, not even static. The unit comes with an internal AM but the external is one you typically get with an AV receiver. The FM is simple a length of wire. I contacted Logitech on the radio no picking up any FM stations (I live in an area with a least a dozen local FM stations). They replied with instructions on how to ensure that I wasn't using both the internal and external AM (note - AM is what the reply referenced) antennas at the same time. So much for techinical support.

Clock - needs to be reset if you unplug the unit.

Power supply - big! Its a 2x4x6 brick!

No batteries - so if you move it, bring along the brick.

If you don't mind crappy (or no) AM and FM reception and don't plan on moving the unit around along (just set it on the bookshelf) it has the best sound for the price.

Also - as other have mentioned, it has a clock, but no alarm feature.
