Summary: Compact, versatile, and highly-usable GPS at a very affordable price. Wrist mounting leaves your hands free for activities. Sufficiently waterproof to be used in bad weather and in many water sports (e.g., boating). Excellent display with backlighting. Quality construction. Satellite acquisition is fast. Receiver is remarkably sensitive and accurate. Configurable screens. Countdown timer great for yacht racing starts. Can use disposable alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries, and ability to switch batteries in the field is an advantage over the similar Foretrex 201. Optional serial cable available for connection to computers and other devices. Highly recommended. My mapping GPS (Magellan SporTrak Color) is now relegated to a backup/support role.
Summary: This was a real improvement over our last GPS. It is smaller, the battery life is longer, and it is more sensitive. We have been using this for weeks for geocaching and for bike hikes. Before we even begin our bike hike, we add a waypoint for the location where we parked the car (probably the most important one of the trip because we frequently forget where we parked). We add other waypoints for attractions we want to visit. We also use this less frequently for sailing and hikes in the woods. I intend to also use this for marathon training because it provides accurate speed and distance data. This GPS does not contain maps. If you are a serious hiker or sailor, make sure at least two in your group have a GPS, or also use a map. We lost our last one atop a mountain and that is why we bought this; it does happen you know.

Strengths: Very lightweight, easy to use, accurate and I like the price.
Summary: I had no problems with this GPS unit, especially after having used a unit that weighed more than 9 ounces with batteries. I find the battery life satisfactory, if not stellar. My old unit, a Garmin GPS 12, used 4 AA batts, while this unit uses only 2 AAAs. No comparison! It finds satellites quickly and reports the information I need to have. Display options should suffice to satisfy most users--anybody who needs more than four numbers displayed at once needs simply to buy another Foretrex and mount them on his/her bike, kayak, scull, wrists etc.
