Strengths: * Super small * Light weight * Diffuser * Run's off camera battery Summary: This is a great little light but don't expect it to be all you'll ever need. While its strengths outweigh its weaknesses, it is definitely not going to fit every occasion.
I bought this light to use with my HV20's for shooting a wedding this past weekend. Its intent was to provide light for up-close interviews (5 feet or so). While it worked ok, a little more power would have been better.
STRENGTHS: This light is ridiculously small. I didn't realize it until I opened the box. It would almost fit inside of an egg. It's nice not to have a bulky light. Not only is it small, but it's very light weight. The diffuser on the front does a good job of spreading the light in all directions and limiting the harsh \"spot\" effect you get with other lights out there. It's great that the light runs off the camera battery and at the same time it isn't.
WEAKNESSES: The biggest weakness is the fact that the light works off the camera battery. This baby sucks the juice. Make sure you pick up extended batteries (and spares) if you are going to be using this light away from home. While it works great, it reduces the time you can record (pretty substantially). While there is enough light for up close work, this little guy will not do what you need if you are 1) more than 5-6 feet away or 2) not in a darkly lit room.
The light is great for \"close\" interviews as it is not to bright that it makes people squint and not too low power that it can't remove the shadows from their eyes. Keep in mind though that you need to have extra batteries AND your effective lighting distance is limited to less than 10 feet. Other than that it's great for those times where you need just a little more light or don't want those annoying shadows around people's eyes or are filming the kids around the house. Strengths: Small, light-weight, gives good accent light in darker situations Summary: This is a great light if you need something small and portable for some extra light in dark situations. Although it's not very bright overall, if people are looking towards the camera and they're close to it, it can be a bit bright to look at. Strengths: Small, light, no cords. Summary: This tiny accessory gives a useful boost in light. The extra light allows the camera to record more vivid color. Although it has an automatic setting, I find myself manually overriding it sometimes.
