Summary: Ever since purchasing a Brother fax machine last year at work, I have been replacing our aging HP products with Brother's, and loving them. Not only are they cheap to buy, they are dependable and works like a charm. The 5240 is small enough to fit on your desk, and quiet enough not to disturb your co-workers. I have yet to have a paper jam in one of these under heavy use! I have 3 of these in my office now, and plan to buy more to swap out more HPs when the time comes.

Summary: This is my third Brother laser printer. I had the MFC 8440 and the HL 5140. They both are still working well. The HL-5240 is doing just as well so far. It prints fast and the print quality is good especially when you compare to the inkjets that I used to have. I use it in a small office and so for it is keeping up the the volume we need. It light weight makes it easily movable if needed. The capacity is good for my needs, it doe have an optional extra tray if needed. The memory make it easy to continue to work on something else (I have some older computers. this printer repaced a old inkjet printer, so I had the printer cable already. But It would be nice if Brother included one. I had such good experience with the Brother printers that I would probable a continued customer. It is cheaper than the HP.

Summary: Most people's complaints here can be said about most laser printers (expensive toner, no cables). Compared to my lexmark laser printer, this printer is MUCH more compact (great if you have limited desk space), however it looks and feels much more flimsy. Other people in this forum have had problems with it overheating, so be careful to use in a well ventilated area. It has 16mgs of memory and is expandable to 512mb which is nice.
