Summary: i just moved and am using this antenna in queens, ny (less than 10 miles from transmitter). i was previously using rabbits ears to get NTSC signal to a tube tv, but picture was very snowy. with this antenna hooked up to a ATSC tuner card in my computer, reception is much greater. i live on the ground level of a multi-story building facing the opposite direction of transmitter. considering i have no line of sight and lots of obstructions, i get most of the local channels when i place the antenna outside on my patio. the antenna is small enough to leave inside by a window or some place if signal can penetrate your housing's infrastructure. i keep it inside near a window as i don't want my antenna to \"walk off\" had i left it out in the patio and i get fewer channels, but still better than what i could receive from a $0.99 pair of rabbit ears. digital signal is much more forgiving as you either receive no signal or get great picture. remember, there is nothing special about an \"HDTV antenna;\" antennas simply receive radio signal. this can even be wire clothes hangers for that matter and there are several DIY antenna solutions if you'd like to investigate. in the end, any antenna must work for your given conditions. this could probably do it, but so could other cheaper options. if you can, try cheaper alternatives as they may work just as well. this antenna is pretty expensive but its compact size and numerous mounting configurations (roof, pipe, railing) make it a nice option in varied conditions.

Summary: Installed it on the roof of 2-story building in Brooklyn, NY. Most of the buildings in the area are 2-3 stories. It took my wife, me and cordless phone to adjust antenna's direction. Reception is good, but you have to direct antenna to right direction (www.antennaweb.com was very helpfull). But still if I direct antenna to the best reception of channels 7 and up, 2 through 5 quality degrades, and vice versa. Purchased $40 amplifier from RadioShack, and it resolved the problem.

Summary: Got this antenna for HDTV and it has worked great. Roof installation was easy since we already had cables running to the attic. We live in the suburbs about 14 miles from the TV stations and get every channel with good reception. It was working great during a snow storm the other day and even improved reception on our analog televisions.
