Description: "Client E76-00131 PC. 1 Server 0.25"" Height x 9.25"" Width x 11.25"" Depth Standard SMALL BUSINESS SERVER 2000: Microsoft Retail Part Number: E75-00008 Small Business 2000 5 CALs: . E76-00005 Small Business 2000 20 CALs: . E76-00006 All of the component server applications in Small Business Server 2000 must be installed on a single machine. The Windows 2000 Server in Small Business Server 2000 is deployed as a domain controller, at the root of the Active Directory forest and we've disabled the ability to establish trusts relationships with any other domain. There are several implications to this deployment. Other server machines can be added to a Small Business Server network, and there are no limits on the number of server machines a customer is able to add to a Small Business Server network. These servers can do many things. Some common examples include: running an application, acting as a backup domain controller to assist in recovery and to maintain the ability to authenticate on the network in the event of a server-down situation, and/or running Terminal Services. Since Small Business Server is the top of the domain structure and it cannot trust any other domains, it is not possible to have two Small Business Servers on the same network. The server is deployed with a hard-coded client capacity of 5. Additional clients can be added through purchasing and deploying Client Add Packs, available in increments of 5 and 20. Client Add Packs consist of a license and license media (3.5 floppy disk). The license media cannot be copied and once used cannot be used again. Client capacity can be incremented to a maximum of 50. Client use is defined as any ""connected workstation"", which means that any PC or device ever connecting to the Small Business Server network requires a client license. The number of user accounts, however, is unlimited by licensing. It is quite common in many small businesses for users to share a computer. The Small Business Server client license requirement is focused on the number of client hardware machines, not the number of users. There is a single exception case in the license where a client license is not required for every machine - which is when it comes to a user who may have a primary PC with a license, yet needs to connect from other secondary devices, such as a home PC or an Internet Kiosk. In order to avoid excessive double licensing in such cases, the Small Business Server 2000 license agreement grants an exception for the use of such a secondary device, provided it is used less than 20% of the time by the user.
